Hunted in Pleasanton, Texas
I did it! I finally captured my first kill with the crossbow I won last year on the Keith Warren forum! This past weekend, my friends and I went on our annual turkey hunt near Pleasanton, Texas.

I didn't hear any gobblers Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. But finally Friday evening I heard one far away. I waited about 5 minutes and yelped a little on the mouth call. Sure enough he had closed the distance. I couldn't see the beard, but saw him strutting and gobbling through the brush headed for the decoys.

First Shot, 30 Yards
I picked out an opening ahead of him and prepared my crossbow. As soon as he reached the opening, I let the bolt fly. It was a 30 yard shot and it seemed like the bolt was in slow motion. It was awesome to watch the bolt slide right above the left leg. He jumped about 3 feet in the air and collapsed.

Second Shot, 40 Yards
I could see the turkey was still alive and I loaded another bolt. When he flapped his wings and went another 10 yards away from me, I aimed carefully (40 yards is a pretty long shot with the crossbow).

Jake with 5" Beard
It turned out to be a jake with a 5 inch beard, but I didn't care. Man, what a great feeling! I was happier with this kill, than I was with my 11 inch beard with 1-1/4 inch spurs. I killed this last week in Guadalupe County.

I ended up getting another jake also on Sunday morning with my shotgun.
