South Carolina Now Has New Opportunities for Hunters
2008-06-23

A general bill covering many small changes in regulations, 2007-2008 Bill 691: Wild game, passed the South Carolina house and senate and was signed into law by the governor recently.

Section 4 of that bill changed the definitions of archery equipment to include crossbows – doing away with the special physically challenged permit and over 62 crossbow use to include any hunter that chooses to use a crossbow in any legal archery season.

John Frampton, Director, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, said, “This action will open up additional archery opportunities for many South Carolina hunters, women, youth and those who might not qualify for a special physically challenged permit. Basically it will mean more archery hunting in the state at no expense to the resource or other hunters, and that’s always a good thing.” Frampton, who currently serves as the president of the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, is regarded as a progressive and aggressive advocate of hunter recruitment and retention.
